HD Research

Research is crucial to understanding the best diagnosis, management and treatment strategies for HD patients. Here at HD Heroes Family Support Network we support local research being done here in Manitoba.

Dr. Lum Min is head researcher through the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba working on the WiSDOM project (Winnipeg's Surgical Database of Outcomes and Management) which consists of a research component and a clinical component.

The research component involves anonymously linking a database of all the little ones born with congenital surgical anomaly to their long-term clinical and socioeconomic outcomes through the Manitoba Center for Health Policy; this is a world class data repository overseen by the University of Manitoba that allows researchers to merge data sets to study health outcomes.

The clinical component of the WiSDOM project is a clinic established at Winnipeg Children's Hospital to follow-up yearly with all the little ones born with congenital surgical anomaly to screen them for complications of their anomaly or surgery that primary care providers may not be aware of.

Donations to HD Heroes Family Support Network go directly to Dr. Lum Min's research team.
